X-MANAGER UTILITY FOR X-WING
v. 4.0
FOR USE WITH VERSION 1.1a OF XWING
Summary of changes: The manager has been totally redone
to allow it to work with the "Imperial Pursuit" add-on disk,
WITH the "targeting patch" applied. This is version 1.1a of
the XWING game. If you have any questions as to what version
of XWING you have, just press ALT-V during flight.
Saved ship modules are named with an ".XF4" extension to
differentiate them from the ".XF3" extension used with
XMANAGER 3.0.
*********** to summarize: *******************************
If you only have XWING (ver 1.0), you need XMANAGE2.
If you have the Imperial Pursuit disk (ver. 1.1), you need
XMANAGE3.
If you have the Imperial Pursuit disk with targeting patch,
(ver. 1.1a) you need XMANAGE4.

IMPORTANT!!!!
1. To use this program, you must do three important things
first:
A. Ensure you have the "Imperial Pursuit" add-on disk
installed, with targeting patch. If not, you need to
have a different XMANAGER. See above.
B. Make a backup copy of FLIGHT.OVL. This is a file
contained in the main \XWING subdirectory. You must
name this backup copy FLIGHT.ORI. The DOS command for
this would be "COPY FLIGHT.OVL FLIGHT.ORI"
***Notice to owners of XMANAGER3 or previous: If you
have an older version of FLIGHT.ORI (from when you
installed XM3, for example) you need to get rid of it.
You need a backup of the new FLIGHT.OVL file which
comes with the 1.1a targeting patch. ********
****It has been reported that newer versions of the
Imperial Pursuit disk come with the targeting patch
already applied. Just check your version during
flight, if it reads ver. 1.1a you have the latest.****
C. Make a backup copy of VGA.PAC. This is a file
contained in the main \XWING subdirectory. You must
name this backup copy VGA.ORI. The DOS command for
this would be "COPY VGA.PAC VGA.ORI"
Next, simply copy the files "XM4.EXE" and
"STANDARD.XF4" into the \XWING subdirectory. When you
wish to use it, exit the game and type "XM4". That's
all there is to it.
2. This is a shareware program designed to ease some of the
frustration of playing LucasArts' game "X-Wing" and to
provide many more optional spacecraft and environments.
As you may be aware, the game allows you to revive
pilots, but at the cost of all Tour Of Duty points.
Also, the game is frustrating in that one cannot advance
to the next mission without 100% success in the current
mission.
3. This utility will allow you to do the following things:
a. PILOT MANAGER - View a listing of all pilots, then
revive any dead or missing pilots without loss of points.
It will then give you the option of changing the current
Tour of Duty and mission of that Tour. You can therefore
"skip ahead" and play missions previously denied to you.
Or, you can go back and replay a mission. Your high
scores will not be lost by skipping back and forth.
The option to change missions is also available to
"healthy" pilots.
You may also award any medal, rank or skill level to a
pilot, INCLUDING a new medal, the "Talons of Hoth" which
is for a tour of duty not yet released.
b. SHIP MANAGER - As you may be aware, the game only
allows you to fly one of three different ships. No
more!!! This utility will allow you to custom design
your own fighters. There are literally thousands of
variations waiting to be flown. You can also customize
enemy ships to fly against.
This section will allow you change the following
characteristics of your ships:
KTU, speed, RU (armor) factor, front shield strength,
rear shield strength, rate of pitch, rate of roll (which
includes rate of "spin"), acceleration, type of missile
(proton or concussion), number of missiles, 2nd missile
rack, laser color (red or green), type of lasers (Y-
wing). Custom designed ships can be saved as a package
under the MODULE MANAGER option.
c. VISIBLE SPECTRUM MANAGER - Allows you to change the
colors of all weapons, and also gives you options to
change the "environment" so as to be able to fight
inside a gas nebula, etc.
d. MODULE MANAGER - Allows you the ability to save many
"Modules." Basically, if you change a series of
ships, or design a ship you want to be able to fly
again without "recustomizing," you can save all the
changes made with the ship manager in a Module. You
then will have the option of loading this saved group
of modified ships on demand. The modules are saved as
a file called "filename.XF4" and are only about 3500
bytes in size. (a big improvement from XMANAGE1!!!)
4. This is a shareware program. It was written in Turbo C++
and took considerable effort. I am using a concept
called "reasonable shareware." I would gladly accept a
registration fee of $5.00 if you use this product and
find it to be worth the five dollars. Let your
conscience be your guide! Send registration and/or
comments to:

If you registered XMANAGER version 3.0 or earlier, you
are, of course, already registered for version 4.0 and
any future versions.
Or send comments to The Achmer Secret Flight Test Facility,
(412) 938-7505, 8N1, 14.4k modem.
May the Force be with you!
(with X-wing, you need it!!!) <Grin> -gms

I or Henry Chang will not be held liable for any problems you
may encounter with this program. It is offered on an "as-is"
basis only.
This program is shareware, and I encourage it being uploaded
to any and all bulletin boards as long as the contents of
this archive are not altered in any way. (Not to preclude the
addition of local BBS advertisement files).
It should contain the following files as a minimum:
XM4.EXE
STANDARD.XF4
